Unlocking Curious Minds: Ahi pepe | MothNet
Ahi Pepe | MothNet is a citizen science project that aims to engage teachers and connect primary school children and whānau with Mātauranga Māori and science through moths.
Ahi Pepe champions learn all about New Zealand native moths and their role in the ecosystem. The goal is to help them view the ecological world as a network of connections. In the process they contribute to the knowledge of moth distributions in New Zealand. Ahi Pepe is a collaboration between Manaaki Whenua, the University of Otago, Orokonui Ecosanctuary and Te Rūnanga o Ngāi Tahu.
The project is supported by the Unlocking Curious Minds contestable fund and co-funded by the BioHeritage Challenge. Challenge funding covers the printing costs of moth guides to enable two copies (one in te reo Māori and one in English) to be sent to every school and public library in New Zealand.
