A forum for Māori property rights
Māori cultural and intellectual property rights are a central theme of the Ngā Taonga Tuku Iho conference that’s being co-sponsored by the BioHeritage Challenge.
Being held in Nelson from 16–18 September, the conference is a forum for discussions around accessing, utilising and benefit-sharing taonga Māori. It is being co-sponsored by a BioHeritage Project that is focused on connecting with Māori communities and environmental knowledge holders to help strengthen and sustain these valuable knowledge constructs.
The conference poses challenging questions such as whether this generation is doing enough to safeguard the heritage of future generations. It will give attendees an opportunity to meet, discuss, debate and develop their own responses, protocols and key messages for legal reform.
