Green Light or Light Green? Environmental Defence Society's 2018 Conference
The BioHeritage Challenge is sponsoring the Conservation Reform session at this Auckland conference.
Session 11: Conservation reform and bioethics
Chaired by Challenge Director Dr Andrea Byrom, this session will explore what the Government’s approach might mean for achieving improved biodiversity outcomes in New Zealand.
Protecting and managing New Zealand's native biodiversity is a key aim of the BioHeritage Challenge, along with reducing risks to our biosecurity system and enhancing ecosystem resilience.
In this session, the Minister of Conservation, Hon Eugenie Sage, will outline her conservation aspirations for this term of government. Dr Marie Brown will reflect on her recommendations for addressing biodiversity loss, as outlined in Vanishing Nature, and assess whether the government’s current proposals are likely to be sufficient.
The speakers will be followed by a panel discussion which will interrogate the government’s biodiversity policies as well as the opportunities created by the billion trees and predator free initiatives.
